Message from our ChairWelcome to North West Queensland Regional Organisation of Councils’ 2024 mid-year review. As usual it was an eventful first half of the year, with a wide array of NWQROC projects and advocacy activity underway. Some great milestones have been achieved including securing disaster recovery funding, delivering a first regional waste management plan, uniting across the state to protect the Great Artesian Basin, releasing our first NWQ Enabling Infrastructure Masterplan and adopting our 2024-2028 Strategic Plan. We’ve also seen some changes in our Management Committee following the local government elections in March. On that note, I’d like to extend my sincere thanks to the outgoing mayors and deputy mayors, including our former Deputy Chair and Treasurer Jane McNamara, for their dedication to the North West and delivering for our region. And welcome to our new committee members who have joined us this term. As we stare down the barrel of the next State election in October, and a Federal election not far away, NWQROC is already on the election campaign path with our new NWQ Enabling Infrastructure Masterplan having its first spin with our delegation to Canberra in June. We’ll be continuing to meet with state government, opposition and candidates and with our Western Queensland Alliance of Councils counterparts calling for commitment to our Masterplan and wider regional priorities.
