Flinders Shire to beef up cattle processing facility

Flinders Shire is poised to take further advantage of its position as one of the best cattle producing regions in the world.

Today it was announced that the council had signed a structured and detailed Hughenden Processing Facility Project Development Deed to advance the development of the Hughenden meat processing facility and feedlot with its Chinese partner Ms Miao Wang representing CNVM Investment Pty Ltd.

The Strategic Partnership between CNVM Investment and Flinders Shire Council (supported by State and Federal Government) has advanced the Hughenden Processing Facility to the detailed project design and approvals stage.  Importantly the Project Development Deed requires CNVM Investments Pty Ltd to develop the project within agreed time frames and guidelines.

The attendance today of the Queensland Chinese Consulate Officials at the Deed Signing Ceremony in support of Ms Wang from CNVM Investment Pty Ltd demonstrates the Chinese Government’s commitment to supporting the development of trade corridors between Australia, China and this project.

Flinders Shire Mayor Jane McNamara stated “This is a great outcome for the residents of the Flinders shire and the state of Queensland. This strategic project will stimulate further investment and create much-needed jobs in Hughenden and Northern Queensland.

I am particularly proud of my fellow Councillors and thank them for their support and substantial contribution to securing this exciting project. Mayor McNamara also stated   “This is an exemplary example of what small councils can achieve when they work as a team to create positive outcomes for their community. I emphasise that this outcome resulted from a real team effort between Council, CNVM Investment Pty Ltd and relevant Government entities.   Importantly this new project will provide the opportunity to expand and develop further export channels and grow the current Domestic supply chain for Queensland beef into China.”

Ms Wang of CNVM Investments added “ This a very exciting Project not only for CNVM and our partners along the supply chain to China, but also for further developing good working relationships between Australia and China. We at CNVM are very committed to the Hughenden Processing Facility and feedlot and are looking to complete the approvals and development process as quickly and effectively as possible, and to bringing this project to life for Australia and China.”

Flinders Shire CEO Daryl Buckingham stated “I commend Ms Wang and CNVM Investments Pty Ltd for investing in the region through the Hughenden Processing Facility and Feedlot.  Ms Wang and Council are excited to be a part of the  team knowing that we will continue to work closely and collaboratively to ensure the successful operation and delivery of this project.  The Hughenden Processing Facility and Feedlot is further proof of Hughenden’s premium position in terms of transport options and proximity to the Port of Townville as well as its proactive and professional council. This Project will inject much needed infrastructure and market opportunities for the Beef Industry of North Queensland.”

Construction is set to commence late 2020 with operations to commence 2022.

It is planned to process between 800 and 1500 head daily creating over 200 local jobs.
