A 50:50 disaster recovery funding model would make recovery harder, slower and less certain for remote councils like Mornington Shire. It would shift more cost and risk onto communities with the least capacity to absorb it.

Building drought resilience in North West Queensland - jointly funded by the Federal Government’s Future Drought Fund and State Government, the Regional Drought Resilience Program (RDRP) aims to support regions to prepare for future droughts.

The North Queensland Resilience Program is coordinated through NWQROC with a focus on regionally identified projects looking to have a region-wide recovery and resilience outcome.

The new NWQROC Strategic Plan 2024 – 2029 was finalised at the May 2024 meeting, outlining NWQROC’s priorities and direction for the next four years.

The Department of Regional Development, Manufacturing and Water is undertaking a review and replacement of the Gulf Water Plan in consultation with NWQROC as a key stakeholder.

The NWQ Regional Waste Management Plan (RWMP), funded by the Department of Environment, Science and Innovation (DESI), was released in May 2024.

The RWMP provides valuable region-wide insight into current waste management and challenges and identifies opportunities and pathways for implementation.
