NWQROC wraps up Brisbane delegation
North West Queensland was on the agenda in Brisbane last week as North West Queensland council leaders from across the region joined a delegation to meet with State Government Ministers, Members of Parliament and senior departmental representatives.
NWQROC Chair, Etheridge Shire Mayor Barry Hughes, said the two-day agenda delivered strong engagement and helped progress key regional priorities.
“Over two productive days, we met with senior members of the State Government, including Deputy Premier Jarrod Bleijie, Queensland Treasurer David Janetzki and our local Member for Traeger, Robbie Katter, along with several Ministers and departmental leaders,” Mayor Hughes said.
“We put forward a clear and united message about what North West Queensland needs – which centres around the provision of sustainable regional funding sources to support our communities in building disaster resilience, increasing housing supply, delivering critical enabling infrastructure and reducing the impacts of pest animals and weeds on our agricultural industries.”
Mayor Hughes said the delegation focused on strengthening the region’s partnership with the State Government, and to build collaboration with those decision-makers on delivering key priorities for our communities across the North West.
“These conversations are about turning advocacy into action. We’re committed to working constructively with all levels of government to ensure our region receives the investment and policy support it needs.”
“NWQROC looks forward to continuing discussions and progressing key initiatives in the months ahead,” he said.
